For my dad's birthday, I decided to bake him a cake. I must preface these pictures by saying this is the first cake I've ever made with more than one layer. Also, this is the first round cake I've made. Also, this is the second time I've made frosting from scratch (the first was last week for these cup cakes, that didn't turn out so well). So you can see, I am not very weathered at this whole baking thing.

Since my St. Patrick's Day cupcakes didn't turn out very tastey, I figured I should take a step back and use a box mix for the cake, and make the frosting from scratch (also, we happened to already have a yellow cake mix).

Although it may not have the prettiest frosting job, let me tell you, Bakerella's buttercream frosting recipe is the best I've tasted.

Yes those are the same exact candles we used for my mother's birthday. I really don't like wasting things. Call me cheap!

Can't you just see the utter joy my father exudes as he welcomes his 53rd year?!

JENNIFER, have you forgotten about the THREE-layer ROUND cake that we made back in January...from scratch? Or what about that frosting that we made together...from scratch??? You most certainly helped with that so it DOES count. You, my friend, are a skilled baker. You're not fooling anyone. Just look at that cake. How cute!!!
